Dear ci:tməxw Environmental Community families,
As you know, roadwork and utility installation around the Eric Langton site is ongoing, and September will be the most challenging month. The school’s main parking lot will be partially closed during this period, creating significant traffic and access issues. Although we will not be at the James Best site during much of September and October, it is important for us to be aware of the significant limitations at this location while roadwork and utility installation are underway.
Eric Langton Site Drop-off and Pick-up Instructions
Ongoing on-site civil works, along with underground utility work on Edge Street, will significantly reduce parking at Eric Langton Elementary and create congestion over the next several weeks. On the rare occasions we are at this site, families should plan for delays and allow extra time for morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up.
Please review the following carefully (see map):
- Lot is closed: Most of the school’s parking lot will be closed for September while on-site civil works continue (marked in red).
- Family parking: Parking on 227th Street has been converted to a pick-up/drop-off zone with a 1-hour parking limit (marked in yellow).
- No family parking on site: There is no available parking for families anywhere on school grounds.
- Staff parking only: A small number of spaces remain for Eric Langton and James Best staff (permit required) in the reduced lot on Edge Street and by James Best (marked in orange). Unauthorized vehicles in these spaces may be fined or towed.
- Drop-off zone: A temporary drop-off/pick-up zone has been established through the school lot on Edge Street (marked in light blue). Flaggers will be on site directing traffic. Vehicles must keep moving – no idling, no waiting, no parking.
- Pedestrian access path: A temporary path is available from 227th Street to the school (marked in dark blue).
Construction Progress
Work on the school site has advanced well over the summer. The structural steel and roofing are complete, and the building is expected to be water-tight by the end of September. Mechanical and electrical installations are in progress on both levels, and interior finishing has begun (drywall, priming, flooring, and millwork). View drone footage of the construction progress here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3X5w1HhcS3Y.
Off-site civil works on 121st Avenue and Edge Street are largely complete, and on-site civil works around the north and west parking areas are scheduled to finish by the end of September.
Finally, the private residential development next to the school has begun underground utility work on Edge Street, expected to continue through October.
While our community will be based off-site during September and October, there may be occasions when we return to the Eric Langton site (e.g., in the event of an evacuation from our off-site location). On those days, please follow the temporary parking and drop-off/pick-up instructions outlined above and allow extra time for arrival and dismissal.
Thank you for your flexibility and cooperation as we adapt to these temporary arrangements.
