ProD – Professional Development Workshop

November 30, 2010 - 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM

Cliff Park, 25200 Dewdney, Maple Ridge, BC

Course Title: Connecting Curriculum with Place and Imagination

Instructors: Dr. Mark Fettes with Eco-School Project and Imaginative Education Research Group (IERG) team members.

Course Description: Although all subjects in the BC curriculum contain references to addressing local needs, involving parents and community, and so on, it’s often not obvious how to do this in ways that are practical and help students learn. This workshop introduces a way of thinking about, planning and teaching academic content that involves a variety of teaching tools – “tools including culture”, “tools adding connections,” and “tools of engagement” (TIC-TAC-TOE). This approach helps teachers capture the interest and spark the motivation of a wider range of students by connecting school-based learning with place and imagination. The workshop includes talks, handouts, games, and collaborative curriculum-building activities.  A small lunch will be provided.

Registration: SD42 staff can register through SD42.  Community educators, student teachers, or researchers hoping to attend, please contact Jodi_Macquarrie(at)sd42.ca directly.
